Fort Frances Museum

Discover history at the Fort Frances Museum, located on 259 Scott Street, downtown Fort Frances.

Pither's Point Park

During the summer months, visit Pither's Point Park in east Fort Frances on the shores of Rainy Lake. Camping, swimming, and picnic facilities are all available.

Mill Tours

The Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. Pulp and Paper Mill is the economic hub of activity for Fort Frances. Employing approximately 750 people, it manufactures value-added high bright paper and also exports pulp to the Boise Cascade Mill in International Falls, MN. Mill tours run from June to August, Monday to Friday 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. except for statutory holidays and are approximately 1 and a quarter hours in length. Be sure to wear good, closed-toe walking shoes. Children under 12 years of age are not permitted.

Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship

Held annually in July, the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship is a 120 team tournament held on the beautiful Rainy Lake. Thousands turn out to watch the daily weigh-ins, and enjoy nightly entertainment all week long, under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. This tournament has become the town's biggest yearly event.

An Annual festival including Mall Days, Teddy Bear Picnic, Culturama, Canada Day Parade, Queen & Mini-Queen Pageants, Fireworks, Horseshoe Tournaments, Pie Sales, Fish n' Chips, Food Booths, Children's Activities, Professional Waterski Show, Bathtub Races, and much, much more!

The Waterfront

The waterfront along Rainy River has recently been developed to include a walkway, bike path and picnic pavilions. It is also handicap accessible. Make sure you stop at the Sorting Gap Marina for a delicious BBQ burger or an ice cream cone. A boat launch and fuel are also available at the marina.

  • Border Concert Series - These concerts held in neighbouring International Falls, MN, offer great entertainment to local residents.
  • Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts - This two-week long event showcases the a wide range of talent (vocal, instrumental, drama, etc.) within the District.
  • Little Theatre - Now known as Actors Without Borders, this semi-professional community troupe has been providing the district with entertainment for over 30 years.
  • Fort Frances Highlanders - The Fort Frances Highlanders Pipes and Drums have been playing as a band since 1956. The band is led by P/M Bruce Lidkea, P/S Rob Barkley and D/S Doug McIntyre. The band enjoys a rich history of Community service and travels extensively throughout Northern Ontario and Minnesota.
  • Tour de Fort Concert Series - This non-profit organization's goal is to bring in affordable, professional entertainment to Fort Frances. Check out the special performances planned.

 

Regional Attractions

Voyageur Panel

Located in Barwick, Ontario, approximately 30 minutes from Fort Frances, this mill manufactures OSB. The tours run June-August, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10 a.m. & 1 p.m. Approximately 1 & 1/2 hours. Wear comfortable clothing, sturdy, closed-toed footwear. No children under 12. No cameras. For reservations call (807) 274-2000.

Noden Causeway

A series of island-hopping bridges just 7 km east of Fort Frances on Highway 11. The views are breathtaking.

KAY-NAH-CHI-WAH-NUNG Historical Centre

This is one of the most significant centres of early habitation and ceremonial burial in North America. This state-of-the-art historical centre is built into the riverbank and is barely visible from the outside. It features seven galleries of displays and exhibits, drawings from different points of the last 10,000 years of aboriginal history, a 3 km walk along Rainy River, a teepee camp and two village reconstructions. The centre is located west of Fort Frances on Highway 11/71.

Kitchen Creek Golf Club
