Frequency of Billing for Water and Sewer Services - each property owner will receive six(6) water and sewer bills over the course of a year. Each bill is for a two-month period for both water and sewer services. You should receive a bill during the months of January, March, May, July, September, and November. These bills are based on services from the previous two months. For example - the September bill is based on services from July and August.
2007 Monthly Water & Sewer rates (GST exempt) are as follows:
Water Rates
- Residential Unit (flat rate) $33.10 per month
- Metered Non-Residential $1.84 cu meter
- Metered Couchiching First Nations $1.84 cu meter
- Flat Commercial General or minimum bill $43.63
- Metered Commercial $.80 cu meter
- Private Hydrants  $99.22 per hydrant
- Private Sprinkler Systems $12.54
Sewer Rates
- Residential Unit (flat rate) $29.20 per month
- Commercial Unit (flat rate) $38.49 per month
- Metered Non-Residential $1.61cu meter
- Metered Couchiching First Nations $1.61 cu meter
- Metered Commercial $0.69 cu meter

General Information
The Town's rates structure for water and sewer services is based on both a flat rate system and a metered system (consumption).
Water rates for home-based businesses - all single residential dwelling units where a portion of the residential unit is used to operate a home based business will be treated as a commercial sewer and water account and will be billed only the commercial rate. There will also be a requirement to install a water meter at their cost and subject to a minimum flat rate commercial monthly charge.
Residential buildings or units - if you are an owner of a residential or multi-residential property, your water and sewer rates are based on a flat rate structure and presently a water meter is not required. If your property is not connected to a sanitary sewer system you are not billed the monthly flat rate charge for sewer services.
Commercial, Industrial Buildings - if you are an owner of a commercial or industrial building, you require a water meter. Your water and sewer rates are based on consumption (metered system). However there is a minimum monthly charge. Also there are additional flat rate charges if your building has a fire sprinkler system or a private fire hydrant on the property.
Combination of Residential and Commercial units in building(s) - if your building(s) have both commercial and residential units there is presently no requirement for a water meter. Your water and sewer rates are based on a flat rate system.
Water and Sewer Services outside Town limits - all buildings or properties outside the Town limits require a water meter where the rates are set at double the average cost per cubic meter. Minimum monthly charges are applicable.
Obtain Potable Water from the Water Distribution System - If a person or business who does not own a property within the Town limits and wants to obtain potable water, arrangements can be made at the Town office. The cost per cubic meters is $20.00.

- The Town of Fort Frances is serviced by a primary and secondary treatment water pollution control plant
- 98% of the residents are serviced
- 2% utilize septic tanks
- 65% of the town is serviced storm drain
- 85% of the town is serviced by both storm drain and ditches
