PROCLAMATION

January, 2023

"National Alzheimer Awareness Month"

 

WHEREAS: Alzheimer's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that destroys brain cells, causing thinking ability and memory to deteriorate over time. Alzheimer's disease is not a normal part of aging and is irreversible; and

WHEREAS: There is no sure way to prevent dementia. Some risk factors cannot be controlled, and research suggests that other risk factors can be managed; and

WHEREAS: For most forms and cases of dementia, there are currently no treatments that can reverse cognitive decline. However, there are approaches that can be taken to help people manage symptoms and maintain quality of life for as long as possible; and

WHEREAS: People can learn more about the programs and services that are offered or find dementia-related information specific to their needs, the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts has the education and resources to help people; and

BE IT RESOLVED: That the Mayor and Council of the Town of Fort Frances hereby proclaim January, 2023 “National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.”
